About Sally’s Ride

History

Sally’s Ride began in 2002, when Sally Fletcher undertook a solo ride around Tasmania to raise funds for mental health initiatives in the state. In 2009, Sally joined with the Rotary Club of Central Launceston to grow the event into a community cycling challenge through the Tamar Valley, giving rise to the Tamar Valley Cycle Challenge.

The event now features five different rides of varying distances, all beginning in Launceston and winding through the scenic Tamar Valley. In 2017, a 10km Family Ride was introduced, designed for riders of all ages to enjoy a fun and relaxed journey through Launceston’s nearby parks and bike trails.

Aim of the event

The event welcomes elite cyclists, recreational riders, and business teams alike, bringing the community together through a shared love of cycling. Its purpose is twofold: to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle across Launceston and the Tamar Valley, and to raise vital funds and awareness for youth mental health, particularly in the prevention of youth suicide.

This community-driven event is made possible thanks to the dedication of Rotarians and volunteers who generously contribute their time and expertise. Equally, we are deeply grateful to our sponsors, whose support ensures the event’s success. We encourage you to recognise and support the businesses and organisations that stand behind this important cause.
